Because he remains in the world as an unsent, his existence is ontologically constrained in a way that displaces the execution of his protective mission onto his successors; he can guide and witness, but the work must ultimately be done by others. This same condition inverts a second familiar pattern: where characters who withdraw into guilt-driven isolation typically choose that withdrawal and find their own way back out of it, Auron's isolation isn't a choice at all — it's a consequence of what he is — and his release from it depends entirely on whether those successors succeed. Both deviations stem from the same root fact: he is a dead man who hasn't yet passed on, which structurally removes him from the role of direct agent in his own story's resolution.

The second is that this origin revelation, rather than moving him toward self-grounding as such revelations typically do, first produces a deep despair and a collapse of agency before resilience eventually reasserts itself. These two deviations are connected: it's specifically the content of what he learns — that he was created as an instrument of someone else's agenda — that both destabilizes his protective agency and inverts the usual emotional trajectory of identity revelation. The revelation doesn't clarify who he is so much as it temporarily unmakes the self he'd been operating from.

These are two distinct facts about him — one about how his past grievance gets resolved, the other about how his emotional life is structured — that together paint a portrait of someone whose inner world operates through pressure and release rather than gradual processing.
